Of sustainability.
Of a stable economy.
Of abundant resources.
Of animals walking the plains.
Combining a love for nature and animals with a passion for creative expression, I love painting, drawing and photographing landscapes. Through this combination and as response my experience as graphic designer, the “Nuanced reality” series of digital landscape illustrations were born. Inspired by landscapes from across South Africa, this series aim to capture the essence of the areas that surround us and make part of our existence on earth. The vastness of the Karoo and Kalahari, the stimulating combinations of textures, colours and stillness in nature, and the joining of human living with the natural environment are all aspects that were explored.
Urbanization, agriculture and conservation are some of the bigger issues that are hinted at in the Nuance series - this is more evident in some of the works than in others. In Memory Fragments and Memory of This the focus is set upon our misuse of natural resources which will result - and already does - in the extinction of many animal and plant species in order to sustain our industrial-dependant, consumerist lifestyles.
In Seapoint City and Seapoint Upington the urban setting reflects on the artist’s own location – in the latter piece, three different locations are being referred to – Seapoint, Upington, as well as Gordon’s Bay - as with most of the works in the series, a focus on traveling through landscapes is evident.
The series are also meant to celebrate the beauty of nature and encourage us to appreciate what surrounds us, cultivating a new respect and connection to everything. We live in a beautiful country and we sometimes tend to miss out on the small things like noticing the vastness of the ocean, the serenity of the veldt and the beauty of the landscape and the horizon.
The artworks are printed on Somerset Enhanced Velvet - a 100% cotton, acid free paper. Only 5 prints are produced for each artwork.
