GYA (Green Your Art) is aimed at artists in South Africa who have an interest in working more sustainably, with their impact on the environment a consideration and guidance towards the production and execution of their work. Our choices in whatever we do everyday can have an influence on how industry and society functions. We aim at providing you with knowledge about art materials and the impact it has on the environment. Alternatives, new techniques, recipes for making your own paint and glue, and other solutions are suggested, and aimed at enabling you to make more informed choices about your materials and techniques.
Some topics we explore include: working with chemicals, paint materials, biodegradable materials, choosing brushes, choosing your wood, charcaol, paper, recycled or waste art and crafts, recycling in and outside of your studio, making your own paints, making your own glue, framing sustainably, printing sustainably, and also exhibiting, selling and packaging with the environment in mind. |
