Janet Botes (1984-) is a visual artist working in various media – including Land Art, Installation Art, Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media, Photography, Digital Art and Assemblage – and involves her working just as much in the outdoors than in the studio. Her conceptual focus primarily revolves around our place and connection within the web of life, and finding ways to negotiate the challenges of the environmental crisis and its underlying causes. Her explorations and resulting art is often very subtle, temporary or conceptual, with documentation the only tangible remnant of the artwork itself.

For the past two years Janet has helped to coordinate monthly land art gatherings for artists based in the Western Cape, and has also been volunteering as team member for Site_Specific and Anni Snyman’s Karoo Geoglyph Project. Janet’s art is included in local corporate art collections, and she has created the artwork for the Sandown MyCiti bus station for Cape Town City. Her second solo exhibition, ORGANISM, was shown in April 2016 at StateoftheART Gallery in Cape Town, and in August 2015 she visited South Korea as part of the Global Nomadic Art Project, which came to South Africa in September 2016 as Stories of Rain.
